Register car spot or get a big ticket - National - theage.com.au

THOUSANDS of residents and property owners in Melbourne's CBD and inner suburbs must register their car parking spots or face the prospect of a $6000 fine when the State Government's so-called congestion levy comes into force from January 1.

Treasurer John Brumby has confirmed that all owners of inner city parking spaces will be required to register them with the State Revenue Office, including private garages or carports, even though residential parking will be exempt.

Owners of apartments with car spaces will also be required to register. So will councils, hospitals, charities, churches and others who provide free off-street parking.

The registration requirements will apply to all properties in the CBD, Southbank, Docklands, East Melbourne and the St Kilda Road precinct, as well as parts of South Yarra, Jolimont, Fitzroy, Collingwood, North Melbourne and West Melbourne.
