Resinet | 1st Facebook
It comes as little consolation to know that we had created the worlds first social networking tool some 4 years before the launch of Facebook.
Our initial concept for RESINET was connecting residents living in multi-dwelling residential properties such as apartment complexes, housing estates, retirement villages and student accommodation.
RESINET (Version 1) was launched as an intranet for an apartment complex in Port Melbourne in 2000. RESINET (Version 2) in 2002 for Regency Towers, The Melburnian, Clarendon Towers, Bouverie Close and 270 King Street Melbourne.
Sadly, two issues plagued the development. A lack of support by Body Corporate managers and management meant that we had to continually fund the development. And secondly, we found residents found the connectivity of RESINET a little too close to home.
RESINET (Version 3) launched in 2006 was a total debacle. We contracted an independent web developer to create a new RESINET and he built it using the Drupal platform. From the day it was launched residents simply did not like it. We didnt like the administration and then we found we could not find developers to fix the problems.

Meanwhile, Down Under, Resinet is Australia's largest residential network community, connecting residents in apartment buildings in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
It provides a 24/7 online communication and content portal between residents in a password protected intranet/internet. TRENDWATCHING.COM can't wait to spot the first intranet exclusively for the 14th floor of a Sydney or New York Midtown high rise ;-)
